Jennifer Vazquez on Open, This Friday, Jan 21st 2011. Infectious! If there is a word to describe Jennifer Vazquez it would be infectious. Whether it is her catchy tunes that you’ll find yourself humming for days or her upbeat sense of eternal opti- mism, there is no other way to describe her.
As Cynthia Mora of Music Connection Showcase states, “Jennifer Vazquez has a warmth about her and poise that not only attracts some of the best local indie musicians as fans, but makes everyone at her shows feel at home and spoken to. Her presence on stage is as accessible and friendly as her performance is professional and polish.”
Her sultry, upbeat voice peppered with its trademark yodel, croons songs of love, life, heart- break and redemption. Inspired by artists like Carol King, Joni Mitchell and Jewel, her music, a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll with a touch of bluesy pop, has earned her the ASCAPLU$ Award (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) nine years in a row recognizing her as an active and promising young songwriter. Jennifer has earned acco- lades from much of the music industry; including the prestigious Billboard Contest, where her songs, “Bend,” “Nothing Without You,” “I’m No Saint,” and “He’s Like Strawberry Milk” from her album, “Bend,” have been recognized for her hit songwriting skills. Music Connection magazine named her “Hot 100 Unsigned for five years in a row and the Los Angeles Music Awards nomi- nated her album, "Bend" for "Triple A Album of the Year". Jennifer also signed an agreement with Zilito Music Group who is working with NBC and has been signed as well, non-exclusively, with Maryatt Music Group for the past few years. Since launching her solo career in 2000, Jen- nifer has recorded three full length albums: “Bend,” “Silenced,” and “Another Day in The Dark” and one EP, "Just Me &My Taylor. In 2009, she released her single, “Lone Pine.”
Jennifer started her career with the cover band, "Next of Kin", while studying English and Thea- ter at Stony Brook University in New York. "Next of Kin" later transformed into the original band, "Blush", for which Jennifer was the lead singer for four years before making the leap as a solo artist. As a solo artist, Jennifer has performed everywhere from the New York subways and The Third Street Promenade to the stages of "The Bitter End" and "The Mint". Her voice has trav- elled all over the country and across the transatlantic where she has entertained audiences in New York, LA, Nashville, Phoenix and London.
As a fervent supporter of education, especially music education, Jennifer spent her free time when not performing on stage in Los Angeles in elementary schools, teaching songwriting to children and sharing her stories and knowledge with the students while encouraging each one of them to follow their passion and dreams.
As an equal supporter of the environment and human growth, this summer, Jennifer was invited to perform at the 10th Annual "Kayak For A Cause", which raises money each year for a few dif- ferent charities in the Southern Connecticut area that work to preserve and protect the environ- ment, as well as create opportunities for the less fortunate. The charities for this year's event included: Save The Sound, The Maritime Aquarium, Builders Beyond Borders, Outward Bound and Canine Companions for Independence.
Jennifer currently lives in New York City where she is promoting her fifth album – “A Very Jenny Christmas," which she released November 2010.
