"On This Date" in Bronx history - January 28th, 1934 - trailblazing New York Yankees broadcaster Bill White was born. As a player, White was an 8 time All-Star, 7 time Gold Glove Award winner, and a World Series champion. Following his career, White became an announcer on both radio and television. He was the first regular black play-by-play announcer for a major league sports team, opening the door for so many others.
