Nicole Johnson

Nicole Johnson, Emmy-Award winning journalist and native New Yorker, began her journalism career as an editorial writer for, The Orlando Sentinel, in Florida where she attended Rollins College. Nicole's debut on air was at Bronx Net and News 12 throughout the tri-state area. In pursuit of her TV news goals, Nicole held a variety of positions at WPIX-11, but was most well-known for her position as the Assignment Desk Editor. The Bronx Journal television show is an innovative and exiting way to stay in touch with local, national and international issues.

Hosted by Miguel Pérez, this show is done is conjunction with BronxNet and the journalism department in Lehman College. Pérez is also a journalism professor at Lehman College of the City University of New York (CUNY), in the Bronx, where he serves as the editor-in-chief of The Bronx Journal, a student/community newspaper, and as host of The Bronx Journal TV show, which airs on Bronxnet TV.

Born in Havana 57 years ago, Pérez came to the United States as a refugee at the age of 11 in 1962. He didn't speak a word of English. But he went on to become sports editor of his high school newspaper, editor of two college papers, a reporter for The Tampa Times and The Miami Herald, and a staff columnist for the New York Daily News and The Record of Hackensack, N.J.,

 

WHAT IS BRONXNET?

BRONXNET is the private, not-for-profit community television station serving the borough of the Bronx. The Station was established in 1988, under an agreement between the City of New York and Cablevision of New York City. BRONXNET programs four channels-67, 68, 69, and 70-on the Cablevision system in the Bronx. Each channel presents a unique brand of programming: Channel 67 focuses on public affairs programs produced by the station. 67's programs keep viewers up-to-date on local issues and face-to-face with the borough's representatives. Channel 68 features arts and entertainment programs including many that spotlight local artists. Channel 69 includes a host of foreign language programs of special interest to the various nationalities that make up the borough. Channel 70 is largely dedicated to informational programs produced by local organizations as well as inspirational programs produced by local churches.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

BRONXNET is conveniently located on the campus of Lehman College. The station's main studio is a fully equipped, three-camera studio, complete with professional Betacam-SP recording capability. Field equipment includes professional hi-8 and digital cameras and editing is available on three professional formats. An additional studio shared with Lehman College accommodates community programming produced by the station.

PRODUCTION TRAINING

BRONXNET provides television production training for individuals and organizations that want to utilize the station's equipment and facilities to produce programs to air on a BRONXNET channel. Training is available to Bronx residents, representatives of Bronx organizations and students who attend college in the Bronx. Production trainers are individuals with years of experience in the production business.

ACCESS

Once training is completed, individual have access to BRONXNET's equipment, production facilities and channels, as Certified Access Producers. The producers create their own non-commercial programs that uniquely express their own point of view. The programs air on Channels 68, 69 and 70, each available 24 hours a day.
