About

Recently, the BronxNet studios were alive with Algerian Hip Hop Dancers, members of Kamikaz Crew Music Group who were visiting America through a U.S. Department of State program. Now, you can experience their visit and their talent right here at www.bronxnet.org. The dance group is made up of five outstanding young performers including: Houne Chernai, Wissam Fouad Chillali, Youcef Mechri, Lotfi Mohand Arab, and Mohamed Youne Sellah. They are visited the U.S. and BronxNet through a special U.S. Department of State “Youth Empowerment Through Hip Hop” project.

Local Bronx talent joined the Kamikaz Crew Music Group at BronxNet as they performed in front of a live studio audience and State Department translators interpreted as BronxNet conducted interviews.

“BronxNet thanks the U.S. Department of State for introducing this outstanding opportunity for cross cultural dialogue, and performance featuring amazing Hip Hop dancers from Algeria. BronxNet is pleased to host them in the Borough of Hip Hop. We are introduced these terrific young performing artists to local pioneers of Hip Hop and emerging artists to bring you a program efficacious to global dialogue and understanding,” said BronxNet Executive Director Michael Max Knobbe.

According to Mitchell Cohn, Program Officer for the U.S. Department of State’s Office of International Visitors, “the State Department’s goals for this particular group are: Explore the various art forms of hip hop culture as means of social change in the United States and globally; Enhance participants’ understanding of American culture and values, with a specific focus on urban youth culture; Introduce participants to the therapeutic use of hip hop, dance, and the performing arts to empower at-risk youth dealing with difficult socio-economic circumstances; and Connect participants with peers in the field of hip hop dance for purposes of possible future consultation and collaboration.”

BronxNet has hosted discussions on community media with journalists from countries around the world who visited the U.S. through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, on numerous occasions over several years.
