Executive Director , .............................. Michael Max Knobbe

Michael Max Knobbe is an innovative community leader, media visionary, and exemplar social entrepreneur. Since 2002 Mr. Knobbe has served as Executive Director of BronxNet, the borough’s public access television station and community media center. In that position he is responsible for the overall success of many initiatives including:

  • Overseeing public access resources and services including a training program that provides thousands of Bronx residents with hands-on production skills, state-of-the-art equipment access and a number of channels for producers to air their programs
  • Guiding the production of hundreds of television programs that serve the public interest including award winning ultra local content that connects the Bronx to the world and builds community development through media
  • Hands-on media production training for high school and college students that contributes to workforce development along with the premiere of a brand new channel by, for, and about young people
  • Spearheading the launch of two new channels, making BronxNet the first Public Access Organization in the nation to telecast on six channels that serve as outlets for the programs produced by Bronx residents, television professionals, and students
  • Helping Bronx organizations and community leaders maximize their reach through partnerships and features on BronxNet programs

Producing dynamic arts programming is part of Mr. Knobbe’s constitution and commitment, working with internationally and locally celebrated artists and performers. Programs such as the award winning series ¡Bronx Live!, the documentary Migration: The Puerto Rican Experience, the culinary adventure Bronx Flavor, and the fast-paced urban Comedy Rhumba have all been telecast locally and regionally. The Emmy nominated docu-concert BomPlenazo shot on the stages of Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture and the Bronx focuses on Afro-Caribbean music from Puerto Rico and NYC, and resonates with audiences in a universal way. Mr. Knobbe produced and executive-produced programs that have been recognized with industry awards including: CableACE Awards, more than a score of Telly Awards, four Emmy Award nominations and two Emmy Award wins.

Mr. Knobbe continues to be a leader in the effort to enhance public access to 21st Century technology and media. As a Co-Founder of the Alliance for Community Media’s New York State Chapter, he works with heads of other access centers to keep leaders and organizations around the state and the nation informed about the public access needs of the people.

Mr. Knobbe has a production background and taught as an adjunct professor, teaching Digital Moviemaking and the History of Cinema at Lehman College. He is a graduate of the Bronx HS of Science and has a Masters in Fine Arts from Lehman College and B.A. in Studio Art and World History from Drew University.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Mr. Knobbe is also an advocate for health and fitness, encouraging Bronxites and others, through media and other means, to live healthy lives.

As a result of Mr. Knobbe’s efforts, working along with others – more and more – BronxNet and other public access stations are being credited for the positive role they play in keeping people connected with their communities and the world.
