A Bronx Tale at Lehman College

Bronx Walk of Fame inductee Chazz Palminteri discusses his theatrical production of the famous “A Bronx Tale” and his reasons for pursuing it as a one-man performance. A single performance will be held at the Lehman College Stages in the Bronx on Oct. 17th and all proceeds will benefit The Child Reach Foundation.

The Bronx County Historical Society honors the valedictorians of The Bronx High Schools at an annual ceremony that brings these outstanding students together with community leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, and more. This years ceremony was held in the garden of the national landmark Valentine-Varian House, on Sunday, June 9, 2013 was documented by BronxNet, televised, and is available here. Honorees include the Valedictorians of Bronx High Schools, John Cavelli of the Wildlife Conservation Society, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Michael Max Knobbe of BronxNet, author Ray Negron, educator Maribeth Whitehouse, Business leader Steve Russo, and author / artist Caridad de la Luz with remarks by Bronx Historical Society CEO Dr. Gary Hermalyn.

BronxNet Training in the South Bronx
The 35th Annual 10k, 5K and 2 mile Fitness Walk -- founded by one-time President of Bronx Community College and Tuskegee Airman, Dr. Roscoe Brown -- drew a record number of participants of all ages and levels. Beginning at the historic campus of Bronx Community College that houses the Hall of Fame for Great Americans --now a federal landmark-- the course took runners down University Avenue to the Grand Concourse.. Among those trading in their walking shoes for sneakers were Congressman Jose Serrano and his son, State Senator Jose Serrano , Jr., State Senator Gustavo Rivera, President Carol Berotte-Johnson of Bronx Community College, Bronx Chamber of Commerce Chairman Joe Kelleher, and BronxNet Executive Director Michael Max Knobbe.

   

Peace Journalism Workshop

Peace Journaliskm Workshop

Running from June 10th through June 14th. This summer, BronxNet is pleased to announce another exclusive workshop. Partnering with The Center for Global Peace Journalism at Park University, BronxNet will be helping to educate students and community members in Peace Journalism, an innovative and positive way to produce news packages, programs, specials, vignettes, and other programs in the ways of Peace Journalism. Professor Steven Youngblood of Park University designed this workshop and has taught it abroad, in Uganda and other African nations.

The mission is simple: promote the concept of peace and Peace Journalism, including advocating non-violent conflict resolution through seminars, and courses, both in the United States and abroad. BronxNet is proud to have him work with our interns, our community, Lehman College students and faculty for this weeklong workshop. The workshop will cover the basics of what Peace Journalism is, how to utilize it, and how to use its tenets in projects and programs.

Bronx Week 2013 KICK OFF

Bronx Week 2013

On Monday, May 6, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. will officially kick off Bronx Week 2013, a week-long celebration of everything that makes the Bronx a great place to live, work and raise a family. At the kick-off press conference, Borough President Diaz will also announce this year’s inductees to the Bronx Walk of Fame.

This year’s kickoff will feature live music, food and fun, as the press conference is transformed into a celebration of some of the best our borough has to offer. Numerous borough businesses, including Babalu, B Blossom Garden, Bronx Ale House, Bronx Brewery, The Clock Bar & Grill, Delicioso Coco Helado, DuFour Pastry Kitchen, Flantastic, Landin Macaroni & Cheese, Lloyd’s Carrot Cake, Tirado Distillery and United Pickle, among others, will be on hand to provide samples.

In addition, Coca-Cola will be in attendance, providing beverages. The event will also include a live performance from Latin jazz combo Yuka Seka and a showcase of merchandise by Mainland Media.
