A Letter From The Executive Director
We, the People of the Bronx are a particular type of strong. Bronxites have tremendous strength in determination, culture, and community. However, we may not always care for ourselves in the best way. While we have overcome many obstacles together, statistics reveal distressingly tragic rates of obesity, heart disease asthma and diabetes. We need to amplify our efforts and continue to work together and change this.
Across TV programs, channels, media platforms, events, and other opportunities BronxNet and the Bronx Strong Campaign invite you to forge your pathways to health & fitness. Whether you are an individual, family or organization working to ameliorate health conditions, the Bronx Strong Campaign is your vehicle and BronxNet is your partner to help make a positive impact on health and health awareness in our communities.

Never underestimate kid power! That's the message of the Bronx Children's Museum's Dream Big program, which on Saturday, August 6, celebrated the completion of its second summer of children's workshops at community centers throughout the borough with a day of festivities hosted by Hostos Community College. The kids lived up to the message, using their power to attract important mentors, including this year's honoree, United States Surgeon General Regina Benjamin. Dr. Benjamin was joined at the college's main building, on the Grand Concourse and 149th St., by a number of surprise guests including last year's honoree, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, along with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Jose Serrano, in addition to state and local officeholders or their representatives.

We begin with a topic everyone can relate to – Democracy. On November 25, 2011 residents of Morocco will have their first opportunity to vote. Although this will represent the first elections to be held in that country, Morocco was actually the first country to recognize the United States as an independent country in 1777. Many in Morocco also recognize BronxNet as a media voice and cultural bridge for all people, and we want you to be part of this conversation.
